The final meeting for 2011 was held at North Coral Crescent on Saturday 10th December focussing on eradication of Bitou and Asparagus Fern and sundry other weeds. In fact we did not quite get our work finished despite the hard work of the 9 people attending, leaving the Bitou to next year. We also did some tentative identification of a Bitou look-alike that is a native and put off pulling out ‘Cassia’ until we can confirm the identification.

Subject to consultation with Council, the restart for 2012 will be on Saturday 3 March at the Lagoon, meeting at the easement next to 65 Diamond Rd. I have proposed to Council that 4 people including a qualified poisoner, be assigned to North Coral Crescent to finish off the Bitou and the remaining Asparagus Fern (not that the job will be finished for ever). The survivors from North Coral Crescent will repair to the Lagoon for morning tea.

I have also registered as Coordinator for Clean Up Australia on Sunday 4 March and look forward to Bushcare support for this activity.

The last meeting for the year will be at Paul Landa Reserve as core site with outreach to the Pathway to the Pool and the BOOF site. This will be the first trial of working across more than two sites. We have selected sites in reasonable proximity not least because no-one wants to miss out on the traditional Pizza Party at Bill Abbott’s on Green Point Road.

Please note also that Council is hosting the Christmas Bushcare party on 26 November at Copacabana Surf Club. An invitation has been emailed to members direct from Council. RSVPs should go to Council on this one.

Re: Hazard Reduction Burning — Brisbane Water National Park

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service in conjunction with the NSW Rural Fire Service will be undertaking a hazard reduction burn in yout area on Thursday 22nd September 2011. Unsuitable weather conditions may postpone the work to a later date.

The controlled burn will be approximately 240 ha in size and is located In Brisbane Water National Park to the south of Patonga Drive and west of Pearl Beach township.

The work is part of the annual program approved by the Gosford Bush Fire Management Committee. The purpose of the burn will be to reduce fuel loads in order to protect property and assist with control of summer bush fires.
Please note, there will be varying degrees of smoke, ash and radiated heat generated from the fire. To reduce these impacts it is suggested that you consider:

•	Closing all windows and doors to keep smoke out;
•	Removing washing from clothes line;
•	Protecting or removing items which may be affected by ash, smoke or radiant heat (e.g. outdoor furniture, fences, plastic items, plants, watering systems, pets etc.)
•	Clearing accumulated leaf litter away from items such as dividing fences or retaining walls and to delineate your property boundary from the adjoining reserve;
•	If smoke affects your personal health please consider ways to alleviate your situation.

Tracks and trails within and leading into the burn area will be closed until further notice.

We recognise that there may be some inconvenience caused by this activity, however, there will be considerable benefits in reducing the intensity of subsequent unplanned fires, protecting property and wildlife habitat. Your assistance in allowing access to the rear of your property if required, would be appreciated.

If you have any inquiries regarding this matter, please contact Ranger Laurie Pasco on (02) 4320 4200.

Yours sincerely,

Alan Henderson
Area Manager Gosford
Central Coast Hunter Region
